What is Mindful Awareness in Body-Oriented Therapy (MABT) ?
Mindful awareness in body-oriented therapy (MABT) combines manual, mindfulness and psycho-educational approaches, to teach clients interoceptive awareness and related self-care skills. Interoceptive awareness is the ability to access and process sensory information from the body. MABT practice facilitates self-awareness and emotion regulation, which makes it helpful for coping with stressful events, pain, cravings, post-traumatic stress, anxiety, and depression.
How many sessions are recommended and what can I expect?
A minimum of 8 weekly or bi-weekly sessions is recommended to learn and integrate MABT into a self-led practice. It is a skill-building model that is taught and learned incrementally. Please note that these sessions include manual touch from the facilitator while you are fully clothed on a massage table.
